He is a clinical professor of medicine at UCLA and a long-standing member of the ADA and Endocrine Society. Dr.Ezrin is also the author several articles and medical textbooks.

Probably saved my life

About 5 months ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I had all the symptoms described in this book and I weighed 277lbs, was not sleeping at all, was irritable, and it was clear to me that my metabolism was "broken"-something was very wrong. After being diagnosed I bought several books on this topic, most of the highly rated ones on Amazon, and found this book to be vastly superior. I am a scientist by trade so I just wanted the straight facts without a bunch of touchy feely business or religious nonsense that I was finding in other very highly rated books. This book does a fantastic job educating the reader about the basics of what is occurring in your body when you have Type II diabetes, things to think about regarding your emotional state and support structure, and simple, easy to follow plans to make rapid improvements. Today I reached my target weight, about 5 months after embarking on a plan based on this book, under my primary care doctors supervision. After only 90 days I had lost 61lbs and my blood sugar, blood pressure and HGB AIC were all back to normal. As of today I have lost 77lbs and am at my target weight. Looking back I can say I made some mistakes and probably lost more weight faster than I should have by not always eating enough and overdoing the exercise but over time I learned how do follow this plan correctly. I actually found this diet to be very easy, after eliminating foods that were bad for me as a diabetic my hunger disappeared after 3 days and it was never that bad. The only downside here is your diet will be very limited until you reach your target weight unless you want to put a lot of effort into food prep and trying new recipes which I did not.

The bottom line for me, this book helped me achieve my goal to be a completely different person, a much better version of myself that is very healthy. If you told me 5 months ago that I would lose 77lbs in 5 months and look back and say, "hmm, that was actually pretty easy once I knew what I was doing" I would have said you were insane. Like most people I previously had gained and lost weight every year and always put it back on, I never honestly thought I could lose so much weight. If you can take an honest look at yourself, commit to this plan and just be patient while the pounds fall off there is no question that it will work for you.

I did not take any sleeping medication while following this diet plan. Once I eliminated the bad foods from my diet and began exercising I had no problems sleeping.

Now that I am at my target weight I will not be adding back any grain derived carbs, only fruit and certain veggies that are a little higher in starch that I avoided(like carrots but not potato's). Basically, I'm going to follow the Primal Blueprint from here on out as that has significant overlap with this plan and makes perfect sense as a next step from what I learned from this experience. If you just got diagnosed and are freaking out like I was, or have been Type II for a while but haven't managed to drop the weight you need to, stop for a second and take a breath, everything will be ok if you make some changes and stick with it. You can fix this or at least make huge improvements in your
condition if you follow the simple instructions regarding your diet found in this book. I wish you the best of luck and good health going forward, you can do it if you really want to.

One of Dr. E's success stories...

Although I haven't read any of Dr. E's book thoroughly, I have been one of his patients. In Aug. 2008 I reached 196 lbs. having been only 128 lbs. just a few years earlier. I was frustrated at the continuous weight gain despite all attempts at dieting and exercising. Finally, my gynecologist referred me to Dr. E. who diagnosed my insulin resistance, sleep deprivation, etc. and put me on a diet program. It worked. I lost 6 lbs. the first week and a safe 1.5-2 lbs. each week after and have kept the weight off. More notably, I learned that my body is, indeed, insulin resistant and that insulin was responsible for my aches and pains, fatigue, etc. On day 2, I noticed a marked difference in morning aches and pains. And, by day 3, I was able to run down the stairs in the morning without hanging on to the railing.

I know that not everyone has the opportunity to see Dr. E personally. But, I feel that if you follow his advice in this book you will lose weight and get your insulin under control. I believe this because I gave a copy of the plan to a friend who has followed it and has also had success. This plan is truly unique. At first glance it can seem like another low carb, high protein diet. But it is not. It's more like, low carb, moderate protein with some secret weapons :) Best wishes!

Great product. The book is very easy to use and is helpful to anyone who is counting carbs. The recipes are tasteful to people with type 2 and to those not counting carbs. My wife and I use the recipes in this book often.
