Understanding sexuality

From reading McDougall's book I came to learn about modern psychoanalytic approaches to(explanations of) human sexuality. The book consists of two different kinds of content "general theory" and "cases". The general theory is statements that deal with how and why the child and adolescent come form sexual attitudes and behaviour. McDougall transformed some of my understanding here since I had a quite roughly hewn image of psychoanalytical (Freudian) ideas of the child's development. Whether or not my image was stereotypical or if its Freud's theories who're simple I have no way of knowing - since the only Freudian texts I've read are "Leonardo da Vinici" and a transcript of the "Woman as castrated man" lecture.
However, McDougall's theory (sections) is a bit more allowing and seems to be more adequate, when I compare with my own experience. Her cases are mixed: one about a woman and the subsequent analysis of her dreams - an analysis which, among other things delved into some French etymology was a bit lost on me. But, the others were better. One about a man that only wanted to have sexual relations with women who had been with men of dark complexion was very interesting.
The analysis of homosexuality, bisexuality, and perhaps especially the analysis of the relationship between neurosis and creativity was interesting. (I liked the notion that the artist's _oeuvre_ could be compared to children "a child of the mind", explaining that many artists (writers) have children late in life or not at all).

Inventive and Compassionate

Joyce McDougall's work reminds me of Otto Kernberg's in that she is determined to examine subjective experience through close adherence to classical Freudian theory. However much one thinks that theory no longer applies, at least in those dusty metaphors, her use of it (like Kernberg's) illuminates areas of psychic experience that other psychoanalytic theory can't touch. Moving, clear-sighted, strange, and loving, McDougall's work is essential reading for anyone with an interest in coming to terms with inexorably perverse modes of interacting with the world. My only caveat is that case illustrations tend to be unnecessarily rigid and at times withholding in their presentation (though they also seem unfailingly honest).

Better than i could have ever expected.

This book is a fantastic perspective on a very curious relationship, the book is illustrated wonderfully in a very unique style.
- Found myself not wanting to put the book away and go straight through
- You get into the story very much, pulls you closer and makes you right in the moment

Powerful and Enormous

Merey's book is a visual and emotional wonder, and enormously powerful. The tiny text and detailed artwork delivers a huge punch to the heart. The characters are so human and raw you can taste and smell and feel them. The artwork is impressive and passionate and painful.
Asher and Eulalie are people you can feel. You both hate and love the things they do and say, but are rooting for them all the while. The book is impressive in its scope and depth; blending issues of gender, age, sexuality, passion, and most of all the various ways we love, and challenges definitions and descriptions of all. One of the most appealing aspects of the book is it's refusal to adhere to labels and conventions of queer identity. It is so satisfying to watch characters be painfully human. I loved this book.

Delicious Read

Okay, I'll be honest with you. I don't normally feel like I have the time or the brain capacity for graphic novels. Normally, I just don't care. But someone sent me a copy of this one, and I tossed it in my bag at the last minute before I went on book tour. I am so grateful I did. It became like a security blanket to me on my trip. I loved the way it felt in my hands, and once I opened the cover, I couldn't put it down. There is so much going on. It's one of those books you want to read again when you're finished, because you get scared you might have missed something. It is rich, beautifully illustrated, and the story is captivating. I don't want to give away any of the plot, but I would highly HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who has lived even just a day in the life of the pride world. Or to anyone who is curious. It's almost like an instruction manual. Well done. Very well done.

There is hope for Dota 2 beginners!

"....a common problem that happens is that a lot of new players expect themselves to be really good at the game straight off the bat and become aggravated or upset that they keep either losing matches or not performing as well as they want."

Honestly I could have written the statement above. I have had Dota 2 in my steam library for quite some time now -- I was constantly getting bombarded from friends on my list to play the game, but I found myself feeling like I just couldn't quite grasp it like I have other games. I think part of that is just that it is different from other MOBA's in that I feel like being the weakest link of a 5 person team can really change the game.. On top of that you suffer a lot more as a player when you are killed, and that can take some getting used to (all of this is covered in the history and beginning chapters of the guide).

A key part of this guide for me is the "Starters Build" -- I truly think that all of the information leading up to the build chapter is important and should even be read before purchasing the game as it gives you in great detail the specs needed for the game. However, most people don't look for a guide until after they have already gotten the game, which is okay too. Anyway, the build guide is great for someone like me, who wants to know where I can easily start with a character that will allow me to do okay and still learn the game. This chapter provides that.

What I really liked about this guide is that it gives beginner's a fighting chance at figuring things out before being thrown into the arena. The writing is smooth and easy to understand and doesn't read like a manual. It seems to be written by someone who truly knows and likes the game, and wants to help others, which I feel is extremely important when reading a gaming guide.

It renewed my want to play the game and I highly recommend it.

Good explanation of the game and how to enter it. I guess I was hoping for a tad more strategy. I think the forums are the next logical step as the game is so hero specific. Thanks for the tips, though!

Are you a beginner or advanced SketchUp user? If you are, then this book is for you. Author Daniel Tal, has written the second edition of an outstanding book that describes SketchUp Process Modeling: A methodology for working with SketchUp.

Author Tal, begins by reviewing how SketchUp works and introduces its basic tools and functions. In addition, he presents a unique way of organizing a component or group (edges and faces) into easy-to-manage bundles of geometry. The author also discusses how to best use SketchUp to problem-solve models and how to best problem-solve SketchUp when it performs in unexpected ways. Then, he continues by introducing Extensions: Custom tools that make working with SketchUp easier. The author then introduces SketchUp Process Modeling through a tutorial modeling: A site plan that includes a building, walks, trees, lawn and trails. Next, he applies the detailed site plan modeling method as a modeling exercise utilizing a scanned and imported hand-drawn site plan. In addition, the author provides a series of tutorials to create custom site objects. He also reviews how to model basic buildings and building elements such as windows and doors. Then, the author continues by discussing two different methods of arrangement: The Accuracy method and the Speed method. Next, he discusses SketchUp Process Modeling with a tutorial of a detailed and complex building model. In addition, the author introduces you to the Sandbox tools and associated extensions in a series of simple diagrams. yeah!! Been waiting for second addition. Bought first addition knowing updates where in the making, but felt was worth having anyway. I love Daniel's clear writing style, grounded in basics and an organized method of working never goes out of style, no matter what version of sketch-up it is.

Emotions grow high under that Montana sky

Carter had always been one of her biggest fans, she was his true dream woman. Since his failed marriage, he had given up on true love. It was easier to dream than to give his heart away to more pain. Meeting Summer was his dream come true, but fear kept him from giving his all. It is so much easier to walk away than be faced with the pain of a broken heart. Now Summer has come back with a mission and she is not going to let Carter shut her out. But when they decide to take the next step, the dark cloud of impending pain still hovers over head. "The heart wants what it wants, but will love truly find it's way?

"Carter" is the third book in SJ McCoy's "Remington Ranch Series." I have read all of SJ McCoy's books including her "Summer Lake Series" and I truly believe she has a winner with "Carter". I personally read it in one night, I could not put it down. Summer and Carter are perfectly developed and the storyline flows effortlessly. It is the perfect love story. It is more than rich, country music star meets cowboy, it is pure emotion. I have described SJ McCoy as an artist with words, this time she has pulled off a masterpiece.

Carter Will Steal Your Heart

Carter is book 3 of the Remington Brothers series. The series is a sweet contemporary story. There is little angst, and there is no darkness. You can just sit back, relax, and read about a wonderful group of people. I suggest that you read the other two books before you read this one. The other books will help you understand the characters’ backgrounds. I have been waiting on Carter’s story. He totally won me over in Shane’s book. The character SJ made him to be is like a real life sweetheart. Summer and Carter met in Shane’s book. Summer is a country music star having an inner war on whether or not she wants to continue on her current path. She is trying to recover from vocal chord problems, which we were made aware of in Shane. Carter is just the sweetest man with a big crush on her. He has been hurt terribly in his past and is hesitant to open himself up for more hurt. You honestly just want to give him a big hug. We as readers know they will be perfect for each other, but it’s getting them there that is what this book is about. Dual point of view. SJ also includes scenes with our favorite characters from Shane and Mason. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the book. No cliffhanger. Johnnie's practical teachings helps us discover how to tap into the spiritual power latent within all humakind. Quick Introduction to Dependency Injection using Spring Framework

"Just Spring" covers the basics of the Spring Framework and applying dependency injection to software application development. In the book Madhusadhan covers Spring Beans, some advanced topics, Spring JMS, and Spring Data in a concise overview to get you up and running quickly using the Spring Framework. Other books are much longer and do go into a bit more detail, but if you are wanting to get introduced to the Spring Framework and apply it to your application development quickly then this is the book for you. Madhusadham is straight to the point on his discussions of the topics covered in the book and he provides example code that he explains in detail in order for you to be able to apply it quickly to your own applications. I would recommend this book to the person wanting to quickly understand how the Spring Framework and dependency injection can be applied to their future projects.

I have been working with the Spring Framework over the past couple of years and had not run into its ability to simplify JMS and JDBC database access. After reading the two chapters covering these topics, I can see the benefits in being able to apply them to future applications that I will develop. I really enjoyed how MAdhusadham was straight to the point in covering the content of the Spring Framework and had great examples to go along with everything that he was talking about. If you are looking for a more advanced coverage of the Spring Framework, I would recommend reading the specifications off the Spring website or look at other books in this topic that provide a more advanced coverage.

There are a few typos that you will see when reading the book, but you can quickly figure out what the intended word was. One that I remember was when the JdbcTemplate was being covered and in the book it says "This call should serve to do most of the work." where he was actually talking about the JdbcTemplate class. Very minor and easy to figure out the intent.

Keep in mind that I would not pass up this book if you are just getting started in wanting to apply dependency injection using the Spring Framework. This book covers everything that you need to get going quickly in 62 pages and will save you time from reading a book that is 200 to 300 pages in order to get the same basics in using Spring.

Poorly written

This is a frustrating read due it's poor quality of writing. There are many grammatical errors, annoyingly out of context snippets of code and the author makes a lot of assumptions, which often throw the reader off. I've only read about 30% of this book and do not want to read further.

Annoyances begin right in the first chapter. There's a line which goes "This snippet shows a VanillaDataReaderClient class that uses FileReader to fetch the data." The following snippet of code contains a "new FileReader()" line. However out of no where the author switches to calling this VanillaFileReader and shows another snippet of code for "Class VanillaFileReader". When I first looked at the code I saw the reference to a FileReader class, but upon scrolling down I couldn't see any definitions for it, until I read closely and realized the author started calling it VanillaFileReader out of whim. (This wasn't an example using Spring, so the name difference is actually an error, and not to demonstrate decoupling).

Further somewhere it reads "If you do not wish to tie up to Spring's @Autowired annotation usage, perhaps think about using JSR-330's @Inject annotation". What is JSR-330!??? and why was it thrown at me out of nowhere!? The entire text just throws little pieces of information and snippets of code at you without establishing a framework of understanding.

This book is like someone haphazardly explaining something to you by writing crude lines and examples on a white-board, except that there's no possibility of you interacting with the instructor, like there would be in case someone was actually explaining something to you on a white board.

no editors at o'reilly?

The book is brief, as advertised, and is more or less okay in terms of content. The translation, however, is appalling and, as another reviewer notes, seriously detracts from the content. Are there no editors or even spellcheckers at O'Reilly? Consider a section of only 3 pages:

On page 17 you find "We can wire the beans usng [sic] Annotations." Apart from the obvious typo, the author gives no indication what is meant by "wire the beans".

A few lines later, on page 18: "The take away piece is to decorate the class with a stereotype called Component. This annoation [sic] indicates..." That first sentence is pure gibberish and, yet again, is followed closely by a typo any spellchecker should have caught.

Page 19: "Although, they do not clutter our xml files, they are tied to source though." More gibberish, but this time with a misplaced comma.

You get the picture. Mercifully you only get 60-odd pages of this sort of thing. 'Tis enough, 'twill serve.
